Ulrich Khuon

Ulrich Khuon studied law, theology and German language and literature. In 1980, he became head dramaturge at the Konstanz Theatre before taking over the theatre's directorship from 1988 to 1993. He was then director of the Schauspielhaus Hannover from 1993 to 2000 and took over the management of Hamburg's Thalia Theatre in the 2000/2001 season. In 1997, he was appointed professor at the Hannover University of Music and Theatre. From 2009-2023 he was artistic director of the Deutsches Theater Berlin. From 2017 to 2021, he was President of the German Theatre Association. In spring 2020, Ulrich Khuon was honoured with the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class for his advocacy of a democratic culture of debate, gender equality and the improvement of artists' working conditions. Ulrich Khuon is a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts and the Akademie der Künste Berlin. For the 2024/25 season, he will take over the directorship of Schauspielhaus Zürich for an interim year.
