Uwe Heinrich (*1965) was born in Dresden in East Germany. He first studied art education and German in the GDR and later drama and theater pedagogy in West Berlin. After years of training as a theater pedagogue and dramaturge at the Theater der jungen Generation in Dresden, he moved to Switzerland in 1996 as director of the Vorstadt-Theater Basel. He has been running the junges theater basel since 2000. In addition to his ongoing collaboration with directors such as Sebastian Nübling, Rafael Sanchez and Suna Gürler, he also works with the choreographer Ives Thuwis, among others. His involvement in professional productions at the jtb is also reflected in the numerous theater courses with young people aged 14 and over. In introductions and follow-up work with school classes, he deepens the reception of theatrical expressions by young people. In 2008 he was awarded the Basel Culture Prize. In 2014, he was awarded the Swiss Theater Prize with the junges theater basel.
