Robert Hunger-Bühler

Robert Hunger-Bühler, born in 1953 in Thurgau, received his acting training from 1970 to 1974 at the Zurich Acting Academy (now ZHdK) and studied theater studies and philosophy in Vienna. He worked as an actor and director in Vienna, Bonn, Düsseldorf, and Freiburg. Other engagements included the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, the Berliner Ensemble, and the Burgtheater in Vienna.

He played a key role in productions by directors such as Jossi Wieler, Frank Castorf, Andrea Breth, Claus Peymann, Luc Bondy, Stefan Pucher, Johan Simons, Klaus Michael Grüber, Barbara Frey, and Christoph Marthaler. In Peter Stein’s legendary 22-hour FAUST project, he portrayed Mephisto.

From the 2002/2003 season until the end of 2019, Robert Hunger-Bühler was a member of the ensemble at Schauspielhaus Zürich. In 2015, he was awarded the Swiss Theater Prize as an "outstanding actor."
