«There is no spring without you.»
Playwright Dea Loher is eminent among contemporary authors and internationally recognized for her penetrating vision into the fragile social fabric of today. Her new piece will premiere simultaneously in Tokyo and Zurich. It portrays people in ways we all know: sitting and fishing, at a restaurant, running into each other in the stairwell or at the pool. With ease and whimsy, stories unfold and variously interweave. Central are two men who live as a couple, their nephew Milan, and their elderly neighbor Ms. Yamamoto. They belong to a society which is both accessible and withdrawn, pleasure-seeking and fearful – made of people who have unlearned intimacy in their doings. Their yearning for a successful life, connection, and endearment unites them. Despite the existential themes of loss, death, and worries about the future, the gaze towards the other remains tender.
With a large cast and a special musical composition by THE NOTWIST, director Jette Steckel is staging the Zurich premiere, her first time with a Zurich audience.
