Jette Steckel, born in Berlin, studied theatre directing in Hamburg and Moscow. Her early work as a director was honoured with awards and invited to festivals. In 2007, she was voted Young Director of the Year by the magazine ‘Theater heute’. In 2024, her production DIE VATERLOSEN was one of the ten most remarkable productions in the German-speaking world and was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen. Jette Steckel is in-house director at the Thalia Theatre Hamburg and works at the Burgtheater Vienna, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Köln, Münchner Kammerspiele and the opera, among others. With MS. YAMAMOTO IS STILL THERE (FRAU YAMAMOTO IST NOCH DA) she introduces herself to Zurich audiences.
