Kathrin Angerer was born in 1970 in Oranienburg. After completing her acting training with the "Theaterverein neunzehn neunzig," she received her first engagement in 1993 at the Volksbühne Berlin. She performed there until 2017, playing numerous roles under the direction of Frank Castorf and significantly shaping this formative era of the theater. She later took on roles at the Maxim Gorki Theater, the Berliner Ensemble, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Komische Oper, and the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
Kathrin Angerer has worked with renowned directors such as Leander Haußmann, Luc Bondy, Jonathan Meese, Ragnar Kjartansson, and René Pollesch. For her first collaboration with René Pollesch in Service No Service, she was nominated for the Faust Prize in 2016. In 2000, she was awarded the Alfred Kerr Prize for her role in Frank Castorf’s production of Dämonen.
Angerer made her film debut in 1996 with a supporting role in Helke Misselwitz’s award-winning drama Engelchen. Since then, alongside her work as a theater actress and voice artist, she has frequently appeared in film and television productions.
Her additional credits include the TV production Klemperer – Ein Leben in Deutschland (1999, directed by Andreas Kleinert and Kai Wessel) and Christian Petzold’s Toter Mann (2001). Her feature films include the GDR youth drama Der rote Kakadu by Dominik Graf (2006) and Andreas Dresen’s highly acclaimed film about GDR bard Gundermann, Gundermann (2018). This was followed by the TNT series The Mopes alongside Nora Tschirner, the series German Genius featuring Ricky Gervais and Kida Khodr Ramadan (2021), the Netflix series Kleo starring Jella Haase (2022), and the award-winning series Testo (2023).
In 2024, the SKY series Helgoland 513 by Robert Schwendtke, featuring Kathrin Angerer in the main cast, was broadcast.
Currently, she can be seen in the mini-series Nackt über Berlin, directed by Axel Ranisch, on ARD Mediathek, and in the series Where’s Wanda? on Apple TV. Additionally, she appeared in the debut film Danke für nichts, a production by Schiwago Film GmbH, directed by Stella Marie Markert.
In 2025, Kathrin Angerer will also be featured in the series Asbest II.
