Maria Milisavljević interweaves personal, seemingly unspectacular, common stories in STAUBFRAU. Stories silenced for far too long, waiting only, finally to be heard. Like the biography of the main character, whose internalized patriarchal violence gathers like a whirlpool. What happens when a woman decides to put an end to the interior monologue and stand up for herself? One turbulent river becomes a raging multigenerational storm of women.
After BEBEN at the Wiener Burgtheater Vestibül in 2019 and ALTE SORGEN at Staatstheater Meiningen in 2023, Anna Stiepani premieres Maria Milisavljević’s new piece in the Matchbox. In this Schauspielhaus Zürich commission, the author deals with femicide and structural violence towards women.
MADE OF DUST is a queer, feminist battle cry, a call to join and rise. Though it also breathes a desire for peace. Flowing harmoniously and flooding ferociously, water dispels, trickles off, forks, and melts. Water never forgets.
