Born in Stuttgart, he studied Theatre Studies, German and Art History in Erlangen, as well as Directing at the HfS Ernst Busch in Berlin. From 2000 to 2005, he was resident director at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and from 2007 to 2013 at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. He frequently works in Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Zurich, where his productions include HAMLET (2007), THE CRUCIBLE (2016), MEASURE FOR MEASURE (2018) and now, in 2024, DIRTY HANDS. Four of his productions have been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen.
