Stas Zhyrkov

Stas Zhyrkov is a director and theater director. In 2008, he founded the independent Open View Theater together with Ksenia Romashenko. From 2014 to 2017, he taught directing and acting at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, among others. From 2014 to 2019, he was the artistic director of the Golden Gate Theatre and from 2019 to 2022, he moved to the Left Bank Theatre (Kyiv) as artistic director. Since 2021, he has also been the head of the theater department of the Kyiv City Academy of Estrada and Circus Arts. On February 24, 2022, the Ukrainian director fled Kyiv with his family. He has lived in exile ever since. With Antigone in Butscha, Schauspielhaus Zürich is continuing its tradition as a theater in exile and welcoming Stas Zhyrkov as a Related Artist at Risk to show his view of war, history and how Western Europe deals with it.
