Selen Kara has been co-director of Schauspiel Essen with Christina Zintl since the 2023/2024 season. The successful director has been working regularly at renowned theaters such as Theater Bremen, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Schauspielhaus Bochum since 2014, where she has successfully developed and directed projects such as “Istanbul” and “Mit anderen Augen” together with Torsten Kindermann. Her productions “I love you, Turkey” (2020), “Dschinns” (2023) and “Doktormutter Faust” (2024) were invited to the young directors' festival RADIKAL JUNG at the Munich Volkstheater. “Doktormutter Faust” was also invited to the Autor:innentheatertage at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin (2024). Selen Kara has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts since 2021 and of the Kunsthochschulbeirat NRW (since March 2024).
