Bruno Cathomas was born in Laax/Graubünden in 1965 and studied at the Schauspielakademie Zürich. From 1992, he performed at the Berlin Volksbühne and at the Baracke of Deutsches Theater, among others. From 1999 he was engaged at the Basel Theatre. From 2002, he was mainly seen at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz theatre in Berlin, where he was a member of the ensemble from 2004. From 2009 to 2013, he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg. From 2013 to 2024, he was a permanent member of Schauspiel Köln. As a freelance director, Bruno Cathomas has staged productions in Basel, Berlin, Chemnitz and Potsdam. In 2004, he took over the management of the Gorki Studio Berlin. He has also appeared in numerous cinema and television productions. For his leading role in Didi Danquart's VIEHJUD LEVI, he was nominated for the German Film Award in 1999, and in 2008 he received the Swiss Film Award for ‘Best Actor’. Bruno Cathomas is a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater Vienna from the 2024/25 season.
