Maria Ursprung (*1985 in Solothurn) writes theatre plays, radio plays and prose. She studied theatre studies and German language and literature at the University of Bern and the Free University of Berlin, and later literary writing at the Swiss Literature Institute. In 2008/2009 she worked as an assistant dramaturge and guest dramaturge at the Basel Theatre, later as an assistant director at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg. Since 2012, she has worked as a freelance author and director at the Thalia Theatre, Konzerttheater Bern, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Theaterhaus Jena and in the independent theatre scene. She has staged scenic concerts with orchestras or music ensembles, including at the International Music Festival Hamburg 2016, Ojai Music Festival 2018, Lucerne Festival 2019. Her play SCHLEIFPUNKT was created as part of the scenic writing workshop DRAMENPROZESSOR 18/19 and premiered as part of ATT Berlin 2020 in a production by Schauspiel Graz. In 2020/21, Maria Ursprung was an in-house author at the St. Gallen Theatre, and from 2022/23 she will be part of the new management of Theater Marie.
