Biber Gullatz was born in 1962 in Korbach and studied music, specializing in oboe, piano, and composition, at the Academy of Musical Art in Darmstadt and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. He works as a freelance composer, musician, and music producer for film and theater productions.
His first professional engagement was in 1984 with Twelfth Night at the Stadttheater Heidelberg, directed by Jossi Wieler, with whom he has shared a long-standing artistic collaboration. His work has also taken him to theaters in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Basel, Zurich, Hamburg, Lübeck, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Mannheim, Vienna, Riga, Łódź, and Tokyo.
In 1991, Gullatz co-founded First Take Studios, with offices in Berlin, Cologne, and Weinheim. To date, he has contributed to over 200 film and television productions, many of which have received accolades, including the 2011 feature film Tom Sawyer, directed by Hermine Huntgeburth.
Biber Gullatz is a member of the German Film Academy and resides in both Weinheim and Berlin.
