achiko Hara was born in Kanagawa, Japan. She studied German at Sophia University in Tokyo and began her acting career in 1984, notably as a member of the avant-garde theater group Romantica. In 1999, she met Christoph Schlingensief, who cast her in his "Germany Search" project, and she continued to work with him regularly thereafter.
From 2004 to 2009, she was a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater in Vienna, where she collaborated with Christoph Schlingensief, Nicolas Stemann, and René Pollesch. In 2009, she joined the Schauspiel Hannover and in 2012, she moved to the Schauspiel Köln. Since 2013, she has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, working with directors such as Christoph Marthaler, Karin Henkel, Katie Mitchell, and Bonn Park. Her time in Hamburg was briefly interrupted by an engagement at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she was a permanent member during the 2019/2020 season.
In addition to her acting career, Sachiko Hara works as a translator (including "Little Boy, Big Taifoon" and "Rocco Darsow"). She also regularly tours with her project "Hiroshima Salon," in which she shares stories about her homeland, Japan, in various cities. As the only Japanese actress permanently engaged at German theaters, she conducts numerous workshops in Japan to share insights about German theater art.
