Mandy Abou Shoak

Mandy Abou Shoak, born in Khartoum, studied socio-culture and human rights in Lucerne and Berlin and graduated with a Master of Social Work. She works as a youth worker and as a social pedagogue at a school in Zurich. In 2019/2020 Mandy Abou Shoak developed a feminist teenage project with Tine Milz, which was realised on the stage of Theater Neumarkt in summer 2020. In October 2020, together with Rahel El-Maawi, she published three booklets entitled "Insights: Racism in Teaching and Learning Materials". As a result, they play a significant role in shaping the current discourse on racism in the Swiss education system. At the same time, Mandy Abou Shoak founded the label "justhis", which sets activist products and practices of resistance against institutional and structural forms of discrimination and makes them visible. Part of the label is the podcast "Wort.Macht.Widerstand". It went online in January 2021 thanks to a successful crowdfunding. In the podcast, Mandy Abou Shoak talks to activists about their practices of resistance. In her Master's thesis, Mandy Abou Shoak 2021 developed a model for racism-sensitive schools.
