Philippe Quesne

Philippe Quesne was born in France in 1970. The French director and scenographer is one of France's internationally best-known theatre makers. He conceives theatre as a temporary living space in an artificial ecosystem in which a small human community can reinvent its strategies and try other ways of developing, living together and thinking. At the same time, he creates performances or interventions in public space, exhibits his installations and stages operas. In 2003 he founded the performance group Vivarium Studio, consisting of actors, visual artists, musicians and dancers. From 2014 to 2020, Quesne was the director of the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers near Paris. In 2020, the Centre Pompidou in Paris dedicated an artist focus to Philippe Quesne.
