Stella Gaitano, born in Khartoum, Sudan, on November 17, 1979, is a South Sudanese fiction writer, journalist, and human rights activist. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacology (2006) and a Master's in Policy and Management of Public Health (2018).
Gaitano's literary career includes two published books, "Zouhor Zabila" and "The Return," focusing on the challenges faced by marginalized women in war-torn regions. As an opinion writer, she addresses women's issues, peace, and diversity in national newspapers.
In 2018, Gaitano won the British PEN Award for her novel "Edo's Souls." She actively contributes to public work, holding executive positions in the Sudanese Writer's Union and initiating humanitarian projects, such as establishing free libraries in Sudan and South Sudan.
Her international presence is marked by participation in conferences, including the Berlin International Festival for Writers (2022) and presentations at Oxford University (2017) and Sharjah, UAE (2015). Recognized by PEN - Germany in 2022, Gaitano's works, including "Withered Flowers" and "Edo's Souls," have been translated into English and German.
