Moritz Grewenig

Moritz Grewenig, born in 1985 in Trier, studied Theater, Film, and Media Studies at the University of Vienna. During his studies, he worked as an assistant director at the Burgtheater and as a camera assistant for film productions.

Since 2009, he has been working as a freelance video artist, cinematographer, and photographer. His engagements have taken him to renowned theaters such as the Burgtheater Vienna, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schaubühne Berlin, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspiel Hannover, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Theater in der Josefstadt, Schauspiel Graz, Staatstheater Dresden, and Rambazamba Theater, among others.

He has collaborated with directors including Stefan Bachmann, Christoph Schlingensief, Matthias Hartmann, La Fura dels Baus, Stefan Pucher, Alexandra Liedtke, and Lilja Rupprecht.

Grewenig was responsible for the video design of Tolstoy’s War and Peace at the Burgtheater Vienna, which won the Nestroy Theater Prize in 2010, and for The Last Witnesses, which was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen in 2013.

For the Bayreuth Festival (2016), he created the film project Black Mountain in cooperation with Audi and LAWBF. His international engagements include work at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, where he collaborated with La Fura dels Baus on a video production.

He maintains an ongoing collaboration with Lilja Rupprecht, including Überwältigung at the Nibelungen Festival Worms and the world premiere of Thomas Melle’s Ode at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

His most recent works include Ehe der Maria Braun at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Asche at Schauspiel Hannover. In addition to his theater projects, he regularly works on film and television productions.
