Wojtek Klemm, born in Warsaw, emigrated to Germany with his parents in 1985 and studied directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. Since 2005, he has worked as a freelance director in the German-speaking world and Poland. He has a long-standing collaboration with the Teatr im. Słowackiego and the National Stary Theater in Kraków. From 2007 to 2009, he was the artistic director of the municipal theater in Jelenia Góra, Poland.
As a director, Klemm navigates the tension between grand narratives. In Poland, he is known as a specialist in classic works, particularly by German authors. His premieres include Anatomy Titus Fall of Rome by Heiner Müller at the National Theater in Kraków, Cement by Heiner Müller at the Teatr Współczesny in Wrocław, Judith by Friedrich Hebbel at the Teatr Współczesny in Szczecin, and The Bread Shop by Bertolt Brecht at the National Theater in Kraków. His productions are characterized by a physical theatrical language and close collaboration with choreographers and composers. In 2021, he was awarded for his production Lalka based on Bolesław Prus at the 45th Opole Theater Confrontations.
Klemm teaches at various European universities and lives in Zurich.
